What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a very effective psychotherapeutic tool which uses the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious changes to our thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a relaxed and positive environment. Using the power of trance, a very natural and common state similar to daydreaming, hypnotherapy can help you make significant changes in your life in a relatively short period of time.

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

As the name suggests, this type of therapy focuses on the future and finding solutions to enable you to move forward in a calm and confident way. It is very positive in that it helps you to make the changes you want to see in your life without any need to dwell on past difficulties or unhappiness.

What can I expect during a session?

During the Initial Consultation, we will discuss what you want to change and I will collect important information from you to enable me to tailor the subsequent therapy to your needs. I will also, very importantly, explain how the brain works, why issues arise in the way that they do and how we will work together to help you achieve your goals in life. There is no hypnosis during this initial session but I will give you a relaxation CD to listen to at home which will help us make progress more quickly.

During subsequent sessions we will spend some time talking carefully about your progress and what changes you still wish to make before getting you on the couch where you will spend approximately 30 minutes in a relaxed state of hypnosis. During hypnosis, your state of relaxation will allow us to access the subconscious mind which helps to make the changes you want to see happen in a positive and calm way.

Smoking Cessation is a single 2 hour session during which we will spend approximately half the time in discussion and half in hypnosis.

Can everyone be hypnotised?

Trance is a very natural state which we all drift in and out of several times a day and is very similar to daydreaming. For this reason anyone can by hypnotised - if they want to be.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I can take payment by cash, cheque or card.

Will I be safe to drive after a session?

Yes, absolutely. You may feel very relaxed but you will be perfectly alert and safe to drive.

Will I stay in control?

Yes – you will always be completely in control. During hypnosis your mind may wander and your awareness of your surroundings may vary but you will always remain in total control.

It is impossible to use hypnosis to get someone to do anything that is against their own personal, moral or ethical code.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed will vary from person to person but, as a general guideline, treatment of depression or anxiety may require approximately 8–10 sessions, treatment of phobias would usually require 3 sessions, and smoking cessation is one single session.

Is it confidential?

All information disclosed is confidential and held within the laws of the Data Protection Act and I abide by the regulations set out within the ethics framework of both the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and the National Council for Hypnotherapy.

If I feel a client is either a danger to themselves or others, I may be obliged to inform an outside agency, eg. a GP, but would, wherever possible, discuss this with you first.

Do you work with children and teenagers?

Yes. Children and teenagers can benefit from hypnotherapy in the same way as adults. I generally find that those over the age of 8 respond best to treatment.
